So, where did it all start? How to begin the story of the evolution of Osirus?
For a long time I had wanted to learn to make web pages. I have a background in graphic
design and looked at the idea of building web pages as an extension of that. I had the desire,
but I didn't really have an idea in place for what kind of site to make. The only thing I knew
for sure, was that all the links to all these interesting places online that I had collected, were
getting WAY out of hand. I had so many of them and was constantly sending them off to
share with my friends who had similar common interests as me.
It really didn't take me very long to think about making a site that I could use to direct
my family and friends to where they could find their favorite online hangouts and cool
new sites. The way I figured it, this would be a good way to learn how to build a website.
Initially my first incarnation of this site consisted of one single very loooong page.
It had all of these hypertext links to all sorts of places. Though as disorganized as it was,
it was a huge hit with my friends. They gave me ideas, and some of their favorite links,
and I would add them to the site. Soon I was building additional pages, and then sections,
which helped a lot, and people wouldn't have to scroll so much to find what they were
looking for. Everything seemed to be falling into place, there was only one problem...
what to call the damn thing! Nothing I could think of seemed to fit.
Over the next few days I thought a lot about what to call the site. I was totally out of ideas,
there was just nothing that seemed to work with my idea of the site and its purpose.
At this point I actually felt I was developing a purpose with it. I thought if I could make
something that was a simple yet effective site that could take you to all your favorite
places it would be really good and as useful as possible. The more I was expanding the site,
the more I was gaining in experience in building web pages.
One day while watching TV, I saw a special on the Discovery channel on ancient Egypt.
I've always been fascinated by ancient Egypt so I decided to watch the show. During the
special it made mention to one of the gods Osiris. As soon as I heard the name Osiris,
something clicked. For some reason it felt like this was the perfect name for my site.
I quickly got up and decided to do some research on Osiris. The story of Osiris to me
represented this figure who helped his people spiritually through the darkest of times
and helped to light the way for them.
The images below are depictions of what Osiris looked like
In a weird way, the story of Osiris reminded me of what I was trying to do.
There just wasn't a whole lot of resources out there on the internet that are direct
and working to be as useful and convenient as this site tries to be for you.
In a way this site serves to light the path to all that is out there. It's great for new
and seasoned users of the internet.
I ultimately decided to spell the site Osirus as opposed to Osiris so there wouldn't be
any confusion with this mythological figure. I also don't intend to misrepresent
the Egyptian culture with this site. So while the story Osiris did kind of inspire me
in a way, it isn't really related to what I'm trying to do.
So...what am I really trying to do here?
Mainly, I want to make your online adventure easy. I want to create an all in one
souped up SUV type vehicle for you use to roam around from site to site and get
the very most of what the web has to offer. I look at Osirus as a visual catalog
of the best of the Internet.
I hope that you enjoy using the site, and have much more planned ahead.
This site continues to evolve, thanks mainly to my fans and friends who contribute
both support, ideas, and links to their favorite places which help me to expand this
into more and more areas. If you would like to share your ideas or links, or to report
any broken links you may find along your journey here, please contact me.
